The greater Bakersfield area has a population of around 467,000, including unincorporated areas, according to local municipal sources. Yokom, Buck Owens, Haggard, are all from Bakersfield and created the "Bakersfield sound" in Country music. Quite different than the Grand 'Ol Opry stuff, and the predecessor to today's country music. Buck Owens was the creator of the "Hee Haw" TV show.
